First let me say that I feel honoured to once again be golf captain of our famous golf club.
The year for me is soon about to start with the men’s dinner on February 20th followed by the American foursomes the following day. Our first competitive match then being that age old fixture against the Northam Artisans which is always well contested with that competitive but friendly spirit.

The Championship will be played in accordance with the Rules of Golf of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews and all competitors must be of Amateur Status as defined by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews.
A few weeks back Royal North Devon Golf Club held their search for a star campaign designed to encourage young golfers from the area (not attached to any other golf club) to go down to the club and experience golf. Royal North Devon has one of the strongest junior sections in the county, and the search for a star programme is designed to encourage any youngsters from the local community to take part, try golf and keep the clubs junior section as healthy as it has been over the last 5 years.
The club was offering free scholarship memberships to the 3 most promising youngsters who came along on the day. This included free use of all of the clubs facilities, free weekly coaching from the clubs professional, and the opportunity to develop their skills at one of the countries most pro-active golfing establishments.
On the day 20 juniors turned up to receive an introduction to golf, some free golf coaching from Head professional Iain Parker, and to look around the golf club. It was a really enjoyable morning’s golf with the professionals from the club assessing the skills of all of those who took part. This assessment looked at all parts of the game from driving to putting as well as attitude and a willingness to learn.

Does anyone else have any old film or pictures taken on the course or in the club that could be displayed on the website? With the club being the first golf club in England to celebrate its 150th birthday in 2014 it would be great to find any old archived footage/images to display.
2011 Calendar Photography competition
The Club has decided that it is too late to produce and sell the calendars for 2010 without the risk of having loads left over in January. Therefore the entries submitted for this year will be carried forward to go towards the 2011 calendar which will be produced in plenty of time. It will also give everyone the opportunity to get that snowy shot or maybe even if we are lucky one with the sun out!
Here at Royal North Devon Golf Club we have at your disposal, Michael Wilson and Iain Parker who are both AA qualified PGA professionals. We like to teach in a very similar way, putting accros information to you the pupils in a very clear and easy to understand manner.We have great teaching facilities here at RND including; Grass practice ground, indoor teaching facility, 18 hole putting green, 2 chipping areas, the 9 hole Pimpley ground short course, as well as the 18 hole championship golf course. There is no better place to have lessons, practice and hone your golfing skills.
Royal North Devon at Westward Ho! can rightly claim to be the cradle of English Golf. Founded in 1864, it is the oldest golf course in the country and is regarded as the St Andrews of England. The golf course is as tough as any of the UK’s better-known links and is ranked at number 69 in Golf Monthly’s Top 120 Course Rankings and it also features in Golf World’s Top 100 courses in the world that every golfer “must play”

It is important therefore that when you register you include your personal members bar discount card number to verify your identity. Your registration will then be approved by the Club asap. If your membership lapses then your site access will be restricted again.
Junior Coaching
Royal North Devon is historically the oldest golf course in England and has been generating excellent golfers for years, including the great John Henry Taylor who went on to form the foundations of the Professional Golfers Association (PGA).
At Royal North Devon we make Junior development a priority and due to this we have already 100 junior members, making us the largest junior section in Devon.
