Caddies at Royal North Devon

Hi, my name is Graham Winter. I am fortunate to be a member of, and the Caddy Master at, Royal North Devon Golf Club also known worldwide as “Westward Ho!” and affectionately known as RND !.

I reiterate “fortunate” as our Golf Course, originally laid out by Old Tom Morris, is steeped in history and is the oldest course in England – in continuous play- having been used as a TRUE links course since the 1850”s.

The Club was founded in 1864 and is most famous for producing the 5 times Open Champion John Henry (JH) Taylor who started his life here as a caddy, occasionally caddying for Horace Hutchinson an esteemed golf writer who also learned to play golf over RND”s famous links.

The Club houses a wonderful MUSEUM and we will be able to show you around as part of your visit.

Holes 3 to 8 follow the coastline of the Atlantic with spectacular views of the Bideford Bay especially from the 6th tee often commented on as a tee with one of the most wonderful views anywhere in the world.

Holes·· 10 11 & 12 are the “famous” sea rush holes and these are where your caddy will be really helpful – should you wish to have one – and will “make” your round – play these 3 holes in par and you can really be pleased with yourself.

We have a number of good caddies who are all playing members and “locals” who can give you details of the history of the Club as well as any information on nearby courses and the area.

I work very closely with the Caddy Master at nearby Saunton Golf Club where there are two fine courses and of course should you wish to play RND and Saunton we can provide caddies for our visitors who may wish to play one , two or even the three courses.

The caddy fee at RND is £40 per bag per round ( plus tip – should you feel it is earned!!)

You will be assured of an excellent welcome with all the assistance· you need to make your round successful and one to remember.

Good golfing – looking forward to seeing you. Graham 01237425271
