On Monday 11th March the North Devon Vets League was resurrected with the first round being played at RND. On a beautifully sunny, if rather breezy day seven players each from RND, Holsworthy, Saunton and Torrington teed off on a journey towards the final to be held in August against the winner of a second group comprising Ilfracombe, Mortehoe, Libbaton and Portmore. The RNDGC 140 veterans raised £1578 in 2022 during their weekly competitions and Open Day.Patrick McGuckin this year's elected Captain stated during their AGM that he had felt privileged to have been the section's Captain during a successful year during which veteran golfers won all of their home matches against visiting clubs. On 14th June RNDGC Veterans section held their annual Open competition for all golfers over 60 years old.A total of 148 golfers played of which 81 were visitors from many Southwest England-based golf clubs. Voucher prizes of £420.00 were paid out and £730 was raised for this year's Vets Captain,s charities ..Devon Air Ambulance and North Devon Hospice. The RND GOATS played their first away day golf competition of the year at Torrington because RND was busy with the Ladies August Meeting events. The winners were Bob Stone, Chris Cole and the evergreen Dai Lewis! This group play every Thursday on roll up basis for comrade and fellowship.

Every year the Vets and the Ladies sections select a charity that they will support for the year. Usually they are different but in 2020 we have a husband and wife team at the helm of both sections. The Veterans are Captained by Andy Hood and The Ladies by Denise Hood. The Vets Open in June will benefit the Charity as well as Andy's Captains "Away Day" in September. After an excellent 7/3 victory against Bigbury in The Emerton Court preliminaries our Vets team played Torrington away in the first half of the first round. This is played Home and Away and the total counted after both matches. The Vets played Bigbury on Friday in the first round and first leg away at Bigbury. They came away with a two and a half each halved match with wins for Gary Fisher/Cliff Brown on debut. Mrs Heather Gale who was President for 2018 handed the Presidents Medal over to Dr Dick Ford to start his year in office.
