As with many other golf clubs, a revised structure for the ladies section has been trialled to reduce the workload on the few ladies who were prepared to join the committee.

The roles were broken down and divided into the following groups - Competitions, Administration, Finance, House, All New Members. 40 specific needs were identified of which five national knockout competitions were allocated to being handled by the Office. The full breakdown is available to view in the ladies lobby.

Responsibilities are spread between numerous lady members. This has reduced the time and workload required by each individual and with our Lady Captain for 2024, Liz Blight, overseeing the whole.

This approach is a work-in-progress and will be adjusted as and where necessary. Although there is still some ‘settling in’ this it seems to be developing a more cohesive section.

For non-members, your first point of contact is the Club Office. Regarding membership you need to ask for Liz McKay or Paula Gibb to contact you and for administration, Brenda Fenton or Sandra Hallam.

For external team competitions please contact the office in the first instance who can refer you to the correct team leader.

The Ladies Section Review of 2023

Under the captaincy of Ruth Davies the ladies had a very successful year of inter-club golf.
The Still Cup Team, captained by Kate Brown, had some great wins but sadly not quite enough to reach the final.

ladies through to finalThe President’s team, captained by Liz Blight supported by Val Cook and Ruth Horn reached the semi-final after a nail biting quarter-final win.

The Sheelah Creasy team, captained by Brenda Fenton, reached the quarter finals but lost a closely fought match against the eventual winners of the trophy.
The North Devon Friendly League, captained by Ruth Davies, brought the Rose Bowl back to RND for the second year in succession.
Veterans, captained by Heather Gale, resulted in the first three winners at the Spring meeting all came from RND.
The club’s Killard Leavy representatives finished in the middle of the field with the Inter-Club Knockout fourball team beaten in the first round.
Four mixed matches organised by Barbara Lunt were enjoyed by all.
RND has been represented in various other competitions with the highlight being Liz Bird coming second in the County Order of Merit, going forward to play in the Club Champion of Champions and Order of Merit finals.

Changes for 2024 season from AGM in November 2023

 1.         Over the past year a working party has spent considerable time and effort to make the Captain’s and Committee’s responsibilities less onerous. Their recommendations were brought to an EGM where the proposals were approved for a re-structure of the Ladies Section into specific areas and small roles.  This organisational structure can be viewed in the ladies lobby with everyone being encouraged to identify a role they would feel comfortable undertaking.

2.         The committee decided to return to 3 divisions in competitions with effect from 1st January 2024. This will encourage higher handicap ladies and academy ladies to play in competitions and ensure inclusivity.   Everyone plays off their true playing handicap but it is recognised that Board and trophy competitions will be re-calculated to a maximum PH of 36.

3.         A vote was taken and it was decided that money raised from events would be split 50:50 between the Ladies Section and Devon Air Ambulance.

4.         It has been decided, due to limited numbers with appropriate handicaps, that RND will not take part in the Still Cup in 2024 and those ladies will become part of President’s team which will be captained by Sahara Stockwell. This will be reviewed for 2025.

5.         The Sheelah Creasy match format has been reviewed by Devon Golf and will now comprise 2 singles matches and 2 greensomes matches.
