Royal North DevonGolf Club
RND 4.5 - 0.5 Libbaton Artisans. Annodata Round 1, Sun 6th May.
With usual Annodata captain Ollie Tanton selected for Palairet duty, Shaun Loze took over captaincy for our first round match at home against Libbaton Artisans.
Mike Colwill led the way with an impressive 300 yard drive off the first tee to intimidate his opponent who had only just cleared the burn, but Mike knew he had a tough match as the hole was halved in 6’s. Mike's superior distance off the tee proved too much in the end and he overcame his opponent 3 and 1 with an excellent approach on 17.
Second off was in form player Daren Edmonds who was up most of the game butin the end could only manage a good half against an opponent who improved as the round went on. Daren’s consistency proved vital throughout game in securing the half point.
Third off was stand in captain Shaun Loze who was cruising at 3 up after 3. His opponent ground him down however with with par after par on shot holes as the round progressed. The turning point proved to be 15 and 16 when Shaun put both his approaches inside 8 feet, helping him get his nose in front. A nervy finished ensued after a messy 17th, but Shaun fought back and birdied the last to win 1 up.
Fourth up was Neil Armstrong who impressed with a good 2 and 1 win against an opponent who played well under his handicap. Neil was up most of the match with a string of pars only to be pegged back every time he looked like getting away. In the end a solid putting day from Neil made the difference and he brought home the point.
Last off was the refreshed Arron Kitching, having recently returned from a long break abroad. He was quickly down in the match, perhaps shaking off some rust, but fought back well on the back 9 and managed to nose ahead of his opponent on the last to take the win.
Congratulations to the whole team and especially to stand in captain Shaun Loze. We now go through to the next round with the draw yet to be confirmed.
