Greens News Autumn 2019

greens news
Apologies for the delayed greens news, we have been having computer and internet issues in the greenkeeping cave. The greens were over-seeded the first week in September using a 13mm pot seeding method. The tine holes did cause some disruption to the putting surface for the first couple of weeks following, but are now starting to roll well again, and after just three weeks are almost back to normal. As a result we have had an excellent strike with the newly germinated seed and put a huge amount ...

Winter Foursomes League - 2019/20

Winter foursomes trophy
This winter will see the return of the RND Winter Foursomes order of merit, where players earn points based on their finishing position in each of 5 events scheduled from November to March (dates below). Steve Morrish won last years series, closely followed by Richard Hughes and Chris Drew in 2nd and 3rd place. The points scoring system made for a close finish, which we will hope will be the case again this year. The event has a great prize fund and we'd really like to see a good entry ag...

WhatsApp Image 2019 09 23 at 09.57.52
Solid Selection policy leads to promotion The 2019 season kicked off in March with Royal North Devon hosting the first round of matches, with a team of mainly low handicappers and in tough conditions we ran out the winners by a considerable margin with Captain Shaun Loze top scoring on the day with 33 points pipping Ethan Jeffery on countback  winning the first individual trophy of the season also. The second round fixture was at the immaculate Torrington in April which was always going to ...

Home match Vs Weston Super-Mare 2019

westonsm home
The 2019 home match VS Weston Super-Mare was another spectacular affair! Some excellent golf from both teams, as Weston brought 8 out of 12 single figure golfers and no one higher than 13. Home advantage was just enough though as RND fortunately took a 5-1 lead in the morning 4BBB to be pegged back with a 3-3 half in the afternoon Greensomes. Royston's kitchen did us proud twice as usual and the day was such a success that a home and away fixture every year was discussed seriously over plenty of...

Vets Emerton Court Vs Libbaton

RND Logo
RND’s “old men” claimed a 3-2 victory in the second leg of their Devon Veterans’ Emmerton Court Trophy game against Libbaton -- but it wasn’t enough. Their 4-1 defeat in the away leg proved to be too much of a hurdle to overcome despite this impressive effort. Captain Simon Hopkins was naturally disappointed but remained upbeat: “It was a very close-run thing and a very exciting, hard-fought battle,” he said. “But the damage was done in the away match. It was a good performance all round but not...

Heavy loss at Libbaton for RND Veterans

RND Logo
Simon Hopkins' (now not so) merry men took a 4-1 beating from their local rivals in the Emerton Court Trophy and now face the toughest of tasks in the home leg on June 17th (tee off 12.30pm). "It was a disaster," admitted a downcast but defiant captain, "and we will have to work very hard to get through." Tony Allin and Richard Stubbs proved they can produce the goods when the pressure is on by fighting back from two down to win their match 3&2 but, elsewhere, it was carnage for a RND line-u...

Ladies Sheelah Creasy Bowl first home game

Sheelah Creasy
Friday marked the first home game of the Sheelah Creasy Bowl , a Devon ladies singles match play competition for handicaps 21-36. It was a chilly start but it soon warmed up with a light wind. The course proved a step too far for the Exeter ladies who found the tight lies, bunkers and rushes galore a tough call. First out was Ruth Horn who won 6/5, Tania won 7/6, Barbara won 8/7, Pauline Marais won 6/5. We then awaited the other matches which were a little tighter. Victoria triumphed 2/1 on the ...

Junior Golf In Schools at The Royal North Devon Golf Club

It has already been a busy start to the season with regards to junior golf development here at RND. So I thought I would take this chance to fill everyone in on all the things we have been doing to grow the game in the local area so far in 2019. Our aim as one of the top clubs in the area is to do our bit in any way we can to ensure that the next generation are getting the chance to give golf a try and hopefully take up the game more seriously in the future. I am lucky enough to have been involv...

New air power cleaner

air cleaner
The Ladies are delighted to have been able to donate the funds for this new air cleaner. The money came from the excess raised for our 150 th celebrations last year. Since then we have been looking for a suitable item we could buy for use by the whole club and we hope this air cleaner will be a huge benefit to us all. Many thanks to all involved in the fundraising effort.
