Yesterday the Sheelah Creasy team of ladies from RND travelled to Holsworthy to play in the quarter-finals at Holsworthy. This is a matchplay competition for handicaps 21 and above. The weather was horrendous with gales and driving rain. RND were drawn against Teignmouth and despite a sterling effort from the ladies they narrowly lost the match 3/4. Congratulations to the team of Mary Harper, Lindy Sainsbury, Victoria Wheatley, Pauline Marais, Alex Guy, Tania Wickham and Jan Hurst. And a h...
Still Cup – Scratch singles Matchplay In the final match of the season for the Still Cup the team woke at the crack of dawn to travel down to Torquay for a 10.45 tee time. This seemed to have worked in our favour as the ladies gained a momentous 4/3 victory against defending Champions Torquay. Well done to the team which consisted of Paula Gibbs, Rosemary Ferguson, Sharon Stephens, Liz Bird, Liz McKay, Gro Lomas and Anna Wright and to all the other ladies who have played their part in the team t...

Despite the blustery conditions some good scores were posted. The Ladies Club Champion with a gross aggregate score of 166 is Liz Bird. The winner of the Bronze Aggregate in the Club Championship is Sahara Stockwell. Congratulations to both winners but also to everyone who took part, especially those who completed 36 hol...
RND’s “old men” claimed a 3-2 victory in the second leg of their Devon Veterans’ Emmerton Court Trophy game against Libbaton -- but it wasn’t enough. Their 4-1 defeat in the away leg proved to be too much of a hurdle to overcome despite this impressive effort.Captain Simon Hopkins was naturally disappointed but remained upbeat: “It was a very close-run thing and a very exciting, hard-fought battle,” he said. “But the damage was done in the away match. It was a good performance all round but not ...
Simon Hopkins' (now not so) merry men took a 4-1 beating from their local rivals in the Emerton Court Trophy and now face the toughest of tasks in the home leg on June 17th (tee off 12.30pm). "It was a disaster," admitted a downcast but defiant captain, "and we will have to work very hard to get through." Tony Allin and Richard Stubbs proved they can produce the goods when the pressure is on by fighting back from two down to win their match 3&2 but, elsewhere, it was carnage for a RND line-u...
Friday marked the first home game of the Sheelah Creasy Bowl, a Devon ladies singles match play competition for handicaps 21-36. It was a chilly start but it soon warmed up with a light wind. The course proved a step too far for the Exeter ladies who found the tight lies, bunkers and rushes galore a tough call. First out was Ruth Horn who won 6/5, Tania won 7/6, Barbara won 8/7, Pauline Marais won 6/5. We then awaited the other matches which were a little tighter. Victoria triumphed 2/1 on the 1...
It has already been a busy start to the season with regards to junior golf development here at RND. So I thought I would take this chance to fill everyone in on all the things we have been doing to grow the game in the local area so far in 2019. Our aim as one of the top clubs in the area is to do our bit in any way we can to ensure that the next generation are getting the chance to give golf a try and hopefully take up the game more seriously in the future. I am lucky enough to have been involv...
The Ladies are delighted to have been able to donate the funds for this new air cleaner. The money came from the excess raised for our 150th celebrations last year. Since then we have been looking for a suitable item we could buy for use by the whole club and we hope this air cleaner will be a huge benefit to us all. Many thanks to all involved in the fundraising effort.
It was a lot tougher than most expected but RND's "old men" are through to the second round of Devon Veterans' Emmerton Court Trophy. After winning their away leg 4 and a half to a half at Torrington two weeks earlier they were given a rare battle in the return before getting home 3 and a half to one and half. Captain Simon Hopkins spent most of the afternoon gibbering nervously about the wisdom of his selections before everything came right in the end. First pair out Clifford Brown and Phil Hal...
The Club have been working really hard with our Mens teams with practice evenings and training throughout the winter and hopefully this will come to fruition in the next few weeks as the first round of The Rosebowl (for which we are the current holders) and The Palairet Memorial Trophy (which we last won in 1957 but we were runners up in 1978!!). The Rosebowl is up first and is this Sunday 19th May with first tee 0930 at Portmore againt Torrington Golf Club. The Palairet 2nd round is then at Cre...

The Still Cup, which is the Ladies singles scratch matchplay, started their season yesterday. We had a depleted team at Saunton missing Paula, Liz M and Gro. The weather was very windy and as they started teeing off it started to rain heavily. Liz Bird [5] lead the way playing in her debut for the Still Cup, her opponent was Abi Moyes. Liz managed a 1/2 but the rest of the team Liz Blight, Sue Ackland, Heather Gale, Rosemary Ferguson, Denise Hood and Val Cook were less fortunate. The match finis...

It was a difficult call to decide who should go out first when we arrived at Saunton on 4th May. Sahara was storming going out in 45 she was playing Anne Wallace and won 6 and 4. Paula Gibbs was giving 8 shots to an in form Helen Letherbridge, Paula was 1up on the 18th tee. Round 1 of the Parker Trophy saw RND face Tiverton at Tavistock on Sunday 5th May. A sunny yet breezy day saw us face a young, talented Tiverton side, who brought caddies and spectators along with their players in the club minibus. Pair 1 of Ollie Tanton and Dave Ashley struggled early on, with Ollie the first to admit he had a rare off day with his ball striking. The quality of our two county players shone through though, and going into the 18th with a 1 hole advantage, Ollie hit a good drive a...
The Vets played Bigbury on Friday in the first round and first leg away at Bigbury. They came away with a two and a half each halved match with wins for Gary Fisher/Cliff Brown on debut. Also Tony Allin with Richard Stubbs recorded a win after making a special effort to play as he was a reserve and replaced David Miller who was unable to play due to flu. Andy Hood and Geoff Sykes got a half
