Emerton Court success for RNDGC Vets

The Emerton Court winners medalAfter losing 3 ½ to 1 ½ away on a dog legged tree lined course at Torquay Golf Club the previous week RNDGC Vets had the unenvious task of having to win outright on the return match at RND on Wednesday 18th May.

The Emerton Court competition played annually is organised by Devon Mens Veterans Golf Association. ( DMVGA ) and involved all the Devon based golf clubs.

With the cooperation of the RND greenkeepers the return match with Torquay team was played on longest possible course, from yellow tombstones with an unusual strong southerly wind.

Our team was;

1) Simon Waddington & Andy Hood …….Won 1 up.

2) Clifford Brown & Gary Fisher ………...Won 2 up.

3) Tony Allin & Simon Trapnell ………     Won 6 & 5.

4) Pat McGuckin & Dominic O’Kelly…….Won 4 & 3.

5) Peter Brummitt & Alan Coles…………..Won 4 & 2.

The reserves Dale Hurrell & Chris Taylor ..Won 6 & 5.

With par golf being played by both teams especially by the two upfront pairs the many following Vets supporters and caddy's were witness to a high standard of golf being played in a strong testing wind.

The final combined score of RNDGC 6 ½ to 3 ½ ensures that RNDGC now meet the winner of Crediton G C and Teign Valley G C. Either of these courses with their parkland layouts will offer a tough test for our Vets section next month.

  • Very friendly place which still retains much of its Old world charm whilst moving into the modern times,. especially the standard and quality of the Restaurant and Social side of Golf Club Life. As far as my friends and I are concerned, It is the place to go.
