Solid Selection policy leads to promotion

The 2019 season kicked off in March with Royal North Devon hosting the first round of matches, with a team of mainly low handicappers and in tough conditions we ran out the winners by a considerable margin with Captain Shaun Loze top scoring on the day with 33 points pipping Ethan Jeffery on countback  winning the first individual trophy of the season also.

The second round fixture was at the immaculate Torrington in April which was always going to be a tough with only Mark 'The Laminator' Luscombe and Shaun Loze scoring 30 plus points - the team came 5th.

Round 3 was at Morthoe in June and even though the whole team impressively scored over 30 points each consisting of  Shaun Loze, Neil 'put the kettle on'Armstrong, Matt Bright, Mark Luscombe, Simon Green and the impressive Dean Willoughby who had 40 points they could still only manage 5th place with Andrew Norman of Portmore smashing the course record with a 61 gross.

The next venue suited us as it was at Saunton, knowing we had to be top 2 to stand a chance of promotion the captain made a few changes and it reaped dividends with Dean willoughby top scoring on the day winning the individual with another 40 points and some good scores to back him up from shaun loze and mark luscombe - we were now back in second place.

The team now buzzing from their latest win travelled next to fast improving Portmore Course in August and produced a brilliant 2nd place with some great scoring from Mark Luscombe, Shaun Loze, Dean Willoughby and Martin 'The Pharmacist' Butler. We were now on top of the league with only 1 round left at High Bullen.

The last league game of the season and the heavens opened at the picturesque High Bullen, we knew all we had to do was to come in the top 4 to gain promotion. Martin Butler teed off first but unfortunately didnt know his left from his right and didnt score well at all which left the rest of the team worried, Mark Luscombe and Shaun Loze were the next two to tee off and they both impressed on the day with solid scoring this left Arron Kitching, Andy James and Dean Willoughby out on the course Arron Kitching was next to come in and he didnt have a good day at all which meant both Andy and Dean had to score well, we were all quietly confident as both had done well all season and they didnt let the team down with some solid scoring. Promoted Job Done !!!

Finals day was at High Bullen yesterday 22/9 and the team did well with some good scoring - representing the club were M Butler, H Cameron,M Luscombe S Loze N Armstrong and A.James.

We would like to congratulate the whole squad with 15 players playing their part in promotion and in particular
