North Devon Vets League 2024
The North Devon Vets League reached it's conclusion at Libbaton Golf Club on monday 2nd September.
Eight Clubs reconvened on a rather dismal day when the sun never shone and frequent drizzly, and occasionally heavy showers dampened the spirits of many. Scoring proved difficult with the pins in very challenging positions. The majority of players only managed scores in the low 20s.
Portmore won the League and Cup overall by beating Holsworthy. The Finals Day Cup ( to be renamed the "Joint Trophy" after the League's founder from next season ) was perhaps unsurprisingly won by the home club.
Libbaton scored a total of 170 Stableford points. RND came a very creditable second with 155 points, well clear of the rest of the field. Ray Jones won the cup for the best score of the day, an outstanding 38 points, and was ably backed up by David Smith, Chris Taylor ( who recorded a Hole-in-One at the 11th ), Geoff Tyler and Andrew Laugharne.
Having come a close second in the qualifying group to Holsworthy, RND has performed well in the first campaign of the new NDVL and the 18 members who took part should be proud of their efforts. We look forward to next year with great anticipation
