RND Veterans League Round 3 at Saunton
On a hot and sultry day the latest round of the North Devon Vets League was played on Saunton East Course. The greens were slick and the rough penal.
A strong group from RND were looking forward to locking horns with the other 3 teams and a tough battle was expected. They were not disappointed! It was obvious that keeping the ball on the fairways, or at least out of the thick rough was going to be key, and indeed that is how it turned out.
Under the watchful eyes of the buzzards wheeling overhead many balls were lost and many holes not scored on.
In the event Saunton came through to win the day with a score of 170 points from their 5 counting players including the best round of the day from Peter Grant scoring an outstanding 40 points. Not far behind with a superb 37 points was Ragaii Loka and with solid contributions from Neil Crossman, Chris Taylor and Wayne Gaish RND finished in an excellent second place on 152 points.
Torrington with 134 points came third and Holsworthy brought up the rear on 125 points. For many it was a day of trouble and strife.
So with the last round to be played at Torrington on Monday 15th July we are still leading the group with 18 match points, Saunton are on 16, Torrington 14 and Holsworthy 12.
All is to play for and we have a great opportunity to be playing for the Trophy at Finals Day in August.
