Ladies Autumn Trophy Winners 2024 – Presented by Liz Blight – Ladies Captain On Thursday 40 ladies played in their Turkey Trot Stableford, which was followed by a scrumptious meal of Steak and Ale Pie.  Our Autumn presentation of prizes took place afterwards:

The team had a fantastic start to the season by winning their first four matches against Saunton and Torrington, both at home and away. The Ladies Presidents Trophy Team won all their group matches to qualify for the Quarter finals, they beat East Devon and went on to play Okehampton at Torquay. We had to be there by 9.30am which was a real effort for some. It was a lovely morning, not too hot or windy and the course was in excellent condition with exceptionally fast greens. The Ladies President’s team won all their group matches and qualified for the Quarterfinals.This was held at Yelverton against East Devon. After the matches were played to a conclusion honours were even so a very brave Ruth Horn set out to do extra holes. She had already played 38 holes the day before in the K&K.  Much to the teams delight Ruth was victorious on the 20th hole. After 7 grueling elimination rounds of foursomes golf throughout England, Scotland, and Wales the Royal North Devon Golf Club lady members Liz McKay and Paula Gibbs have reached the final round of Daily Mail UK Foursomes Golf championships at St. Pierre Championship golf club Wales, to be played on the 2nd, 3rd & 4th of October. This is the second time that RNDGC lady members have reached the final as Heather Gale and Mary Marshman represented the club in the final over 24 years ago in 1998....

Our Ladies Still Cup team unfortunately lost their semi-final match against East Devon at Churston on Thursday 9th September. The team put up a brave fight, but with many of the eligible players not being available it was a very tall order to win the tie. After winning both our home matches against Saunton and Tavistock our Ladies Still Cup team has qualified for the Semifinals at Churston in early September. Due to circumstances out of our control, we have had the opportunity to introduce the match-play concept, scratch golf, to several ladies with slightly higher handicap than what we normally would choose and also higher handicap than our opponents. The Sally Brown Foursomes was won on Saturday 14th August by Craig Brodie and Mary Harper, with a magnificent score of 48 points. President Mervyn Fudge presented the prizes along with the Ladies President’s Prize which was played in June and won by Carole Bewes with another excellent score of 48 points. This was the first prize giving at the club for many months due to Covid restrictions, and it was wonderful to see so many members and visitors in the clubhouse.  

RND Ladies Still Cup Team got off to a great start in their first match of the season against Saunton Ladies at RND. Five pairings set out in strong winds on Sunday afternoon. How wonderful it was to return after the latest Covid lockdown to inter-club competitive golf on Sunday, with the ladies match against Saunton in the Annodata Match Play Competition played at RND. It was a fiercely fought battle with an all square result at the end of the five matches. This meant a playoff which RND sadly lost.
