Mostly taken from Devon Golf News On Sunday, 13th August, Woodbury Park Golf Club hosted the Palairet Memorial Finals Day 2023 which saw Tiverton, Exeter, Ilfracombe and Royal North Devon ready for an anxious but exciting day ahead. One of the morning semi-finals was a repeat of last year with Tiverton drawing Exeter, the second semi-final was Ilfracombe against Royal North Devon. Much to Tiverton's delight, they were able to right last year's wrongs and get the win against Exeter 3½-1½, gi...
Having come through a very tight encounter in the previous round, the RND Men’s Pailairet Team faced Fingle Glen Golf Club on Sunday 23rd July in the Quarter Final. Fingle Glen are five times finalists and two-time Champions of the Palairet in recent years and the match up, that our heroes were to face, was always going to be a tough one. However, having beaten them recently in the Annodata National Tournament the team were feeling confident. During the practice round the RND players foun...
Sunday 2nd July saw the much-anticipated 3rd round match between RND and Libbaton Golf Club held on the West Course at Saunton. In the preceding weeks to the fixture the course had been baked by the hot weather we have been having, but a downpour Friday saw the course softened up somewhat. However, what was gained by a softening of the ground was lost again due to the fairly strong wind blowing from the West increasing the difficulty level of what we all know is a pretty tough test of golf. Havi...
After a great result in the first round of the Palairet Trophy, The RND Mens Palairet team faced the Lion Artisans of Mortehoe and Woolacombe in the second-round match held at Yelverton Golf Club on the 4th June 2023. With the weather hot and sunny the course was playing very hard and bouncy with all the surfaces, fairways and greens in remarkably green condition considering the very dry weather we have had over the last month or so. With some of the players from the first match unavailable and ...
By Chris Hampton (Captain) Sunday 30th April June saw RND’S 2023 Palairet Trophy team take on Bovey Tracey at Libbaton Golf Club. With no bye in the first round this match was played much earlier in the year than previous opening matches. The weather was fair for most of the day and the Course was very soft underfoot with slow, but true, greens. With quite a number of the superstar players at RND not available the match provided an opportunity to blood some new talent and employ the pairings wit...
Sunday 5th June saw RND’S Palairet Trophy team take on local rivals Portmore on the goat hills of Ilfracombe Golf Club. With the course in fine condition and greens running fast and true it made for a fine match. A fairly mild start to the day saw fairly heavy rain come in, with most matches soaked by the end of the game. Both teams fielded strong pairings with good quality golf played and every match bar one went down to the last one or two holes. Match Report as follows Tanton and Tanton The f...
The team had really high hopes for Palairet Memorial Trophy this year after putting out the current holders Teignmouth in the first round at Tiverton and then beating the strong team of Downes Crediton at Yelverton both matches by the narrow margins of 3.5 - 1.5. The last time we won the trophy, a handicap foursomes matchplay Inter-Devon club knockout was in 1957. The matches are usually one a month starting in April and finishing in September. So it was off to East Devon GC for the third round,...
The team Vs Downes Crediton with their boxes of "Ocean Tee Golf" Bamboo tees The 2021 Palairet Team have progressed to the 3rd Round for the first time in a few years after an excellent victory at Yelverton Vs Downes Crediton GC. The Palairet season has been a challenge this year as there are lots of matches to play in a short time and after our win at Tiverton 3 weeks ago putting out the current title holders Teignmouth we had a tight match played at the lovely Dartmoor links of Yelverton. The ...
