The golfing ladies at RND have been fundraising all year for the Captains charity, the North Devon Hospice. At a well-attended ladies AGM retiring captain Tania Wickham was delighted to hand over a cheque for £3,093.37 to Jess Burford-Redgrove, Community and Events Fundraiser at North Devon Hospice, on behalf of all the ladies. The money has been raised throughout the last year by the ladies at coffee mornings, raffles during competitions and various other events. Many thanks to all the ladies w...
For the second time we have played a "Golfer and New Golfer" 6 hole competition to get new players playing with more established golfers. This time we had two very happy young men who romped home with an amazing 18 points in 6 holes! Will and Thomas started with a birdie 4 on the 1st hole which included a massive putt from Thomas of over 60 feet. The boys easily won and it was great to see such big grins in the clubhouse! The new golfers are a good way through the "Get Into Golf" program and all...
Our fantastically successful "Get into Golf" program that we started at the beginning of 2019 has given us our first big winner! Sue Worthington was one of the Ladies that joined the club on the Get Into Golf program where for just £299 she had 14 months of membership and pretty much £299 worth of lessons thrown in! Sue played with her husband Christy in the Edie Brown Mixed Trophy and they scored a brilliant 43 points to win by just 1 point from Gary Fisher and Pauline Marais (42) with Ruth Dav...
Apologies for the delayed greens news, we have been having computer and internet issues in the greenkeeping cave. The greens were over-seeded the first week in September using a 13mm pot seeding method. The tine holes did cause some disruption to the putting surface for the first couple of weeks following, but are now starting to roll well again, and after just three weeks are almost back to normal. As a result we have had an excellent strike with the newly germinated seed and put a huge amount ...
This winter will see the return of the RND Winter Foursomes order of merit, where players earn points based on their finishing position in each of 5 events scheduled from November to March (dates below). Steve Morrish won last years series, closely followed by Richard Hughes and Chris Drew in 2nd and 3rd place. The points scoring system made for a close finish, which we will hope will be the case again this year. The event has a great prize fund and we'd really like to see a good entry ag...
Solid Selection policy leads to promotion The 2019 season kicked off in March with Royal North Devon hosting the first round of matches, with a team of mainly low handicappers and in tough conditions we ran out the winners by a considerable margin with Captain Shaun Loze top scoring on the day with 33 points pipping Ethan Jeffery on countback winning the first individual trophy of the season also. The second round fixture was at the immaculate Torrington in April which was always going to ...
A really great evening for our "Get Into Golf" series of events was our "Golfer and New Golfer" 9 hole competition where a regular golfer pairs up with a new golfer in a "foursomes" (Alternate shot) competition. There as a great turnout with in total 56 players in total playing 9 hole foursomes. Winners:1st - 21pts Kevin and Claire Ellicott 2nd - 20pts Alice Brown & Janet Hill 3rd tied - 19pts Chris Brown & Chris Cloke with Mike & Freddy Wilson {gallery}Blog-images/2019/nongolf...

A great win at the Killard Leavy Cup competition at Honiton Golf Club for ladies captain Tania Wickham and partner Pauline Marais. The Killard Leavy Cup is a foursomes, stableford competition run by DCVLGA for lady veterans. In tricky conditions the pair coped better than the rest of the field and were delighted with their win. Congratulations Tania and Pauline, a fantastic achievement.
The 2019 home match VS Weston Super-Mare was another spectacular affair! Some excellent golf from both teams, as Weston brought 8 out of 12 single figure golfers and no one higher than 13. Home advantage was just enough though as RND fortunately took a 5-1 lead in the morning 4BBB to be pegged back with a 3-3 half in the afternoon Greensomes. Royston's kitchen did us proud twice as usual and the day was such a success that a home and away fixture every year was discussed seriously over plenty of...
The 55th Annual match between the Club and The Oxford and Cambridge Golfing Society is a 36 hole scratch foursomes event and this year was won by the visitors in a very closely fought match. Most matches finished on the final green and we congratulate the visitors whilst we are already planning our revenge in 2020! Well played everyone!

Yesterday the Sheelah Creasy team of ladies from RND travelled to Holsworthy to play in the quarter-finals at Holsworthy. This is a matchplay competition for handicaps 21 and above. The weather was horrendous with gales and driving rain. RND were drawn against Teignmouth and despite a sterling effort from the ladies they narrowly lost the match 3/4. Congratulations to the team of Mary Harper, Lindy Sainsbury, Victoria Wheatley, Pauline Marais, Alex Guy, Tania Wickham and Jan Hurst. And a h...
Still Cup – Scratch singles Matchplay In the final match of the season for the Still Cup the team woke at the crack of dawn to travel down to Torquay for a 10.45 tee time. This seemed to have worked in our favour as the ladies gained a momentous 4/3 victory against defending Champions Torquay. Well done to the team which consisted of Paula Gibbs, Rosemary Ferguson, Sharon Stephens, Liz Bird, Liz McKay, Gro Lomas and Anna Wright and to all the other ladies who have played their part in the team t...

Coronation Foursomes Winners of the Coronation Foursomes at RND were Margaret Ellicott and Ruth Horn with 41 points. They now go through to the regional finals with their score being in the top 100 in the South West. The Regional final is at Weston Super Mare on 19th July, with the winners going on to play in the National finals at St Andrews. Good luck both. Liz Bird - Ladies Club Champion 2019 The ladies club championships took place on 27 June 2019 with 19 ladies completing 36 holes on the day and a further 20 completing 18 holes. Despite the blustery conditions some good scores were posted. The Ladies Club Champion with a gross aggregate score of 166 is Liz Bird. The winner of the Bronze Aggregate in the Club Championship is Sahara Stockwell. Congratulations to both winners but also to everyone who took part, especially those who completed 36 hol...
RND’s “old men” claimed a 3-2 victory in the second leg of their Devon Veterans’ Emmerton Court Trophy game against Libbaton -- but it wasn’t enough. Their 4-1 defeat in the away leg proved to be too much of a hurdle to overcome despite this impressive effort.Captain Simon Hopkins was naturally disappointed but remained upbeat: “It was a very close-run thing and a very exciting, hard-fought battle,” he said. “But the damage was done in the away match. It was a good performance all round but not ...
Simon Hopkins' (now not so) merry men took a 4-1 beating from their local rivals in the Emerton Court Trophy and now face the toughest of tasks in the home leg on June 17th (tee off 12.30pm). "It was a disaster," admitted a downcast but defiant captain, "and we will have to work very hard to get through." Tony Allin and Richard Stubbs proved they can produce the goods when the pressure is on by fighting back from two down to win their match 3&2 but, elsewhere, it was carnage for a RND line-u...
