Mark Stockdale of Woburn Golf Club has won the West Of England Amateur Golf Tournament, held at the Royal North Devon Golf Club from 27th to 29th April. Stockdale finished 11 under par, with scores of 70, 66, 74, and 67. Alexander Ford was the next closest competitor, finishing 3 under par, with scores of 74, 66, 72, and 73. After the Lowis Cup Greensomes is the most important presentation of the year, Val Cook becomes only the 5th Lady President of the Club, the second in the last nine years. In the quarter finals we had to give 16 shots to a pair from South Staffs. They had reached the finals on two previous occasions and beat us 3/1. They went on to play two girls from Dumfries Golf Club in the final. After 7 grueling elimination rounds of foursomes golf throughout England, Scotland, and Wales the Royal North Devon Golf Club lady members Liz McKay and Paula Gibbs have reached the final round of Daily Mail UK Foursomes Golf championships at St. Pierre Championship golf club Wales, to be played on the 2nd, 3rd & 4th of October. Royal North Devon v Portmore - 26th June 2022 After all matches made it to at least the 17th hole, the High Handicap Team were beaten 2- 1 by Portmore. With changeable weather, and shots being given by our team, it was a challenging afternoon. However, the fixture was played in great spirits and both teams enjoyed reflecting on the matches over sandwiches afterwards. On 14th June RNDGC Veterans section held their annual Open competition for all golfers over 60 years old.A total of 148 golfers played of which 81 were visitors from many Southwest England-based golf clubs. Sunday 5th June saw RND’S Palairet Trophy team take on local rivals Portmore on the goat hills of Ilfracombe Golf Club. With the course in fine condition and greens running fast and true it made for a fine match. ‘A strong easterly wind made playing conditions difficult’. A fantastic winning score of 40 points saw Steven Sherry and Neil Crossman take the trophy. Second place, on 36 points was Tom Boundy and Jack Smallridge. Third was the never ageing Bryan Palmer, playing with a much younger Peter Slee also with 36 points.
