RND Ladies Presidents Team Battles Hard in Final Divisional Match at Exeter

Exeter, Friday 27th June 2025 – The Royal North Devon Ladies Presidents team played their final divisional match of the season at Exeter Golf Club on a scorching hot day. With an eye on a potential quarter-final spot, the team strategically introduced some new players to broaden our selection options for future rounds.

The matches were fiercely contested, with several impressive performances:

Alex Guy showcased incredible determination, stepping up as a willing volunteer despite the handicap limit meaning she lost several shots. Her tenacity paid off with a fantastic 4&3 win!

Liz Cann put up a solid fight throughout her match, ultimately losing on the 18th hole in a very close contest.

Making her return to RND match play after foot surgery, Gro Lomas also narrowly missed out, losing on the 18th after a hard-fought battle.

Alison Cox, playing at Exeter for the first time, secured a brilliant 2&1 win before heading off for further sporting endeavours in London – a truly multi-talented member!

Perhaps the most talked-about win of the day came from Lesley Anne Collins Powell, who clinched a 1-up victory. Her innovative "Bouncing Bomb" technique over the water on the 18th green set her up for an easy putt, much to the chagrin of her "not impressed" opponent, who playfully labelled her "jammy"!

Lorna Pearse delivered a magnificent performance, fighting hard to secure a 2&1 win. Her match featured some truly gutsy and effective shots, particularly over the last three holes, which were a joy to witness.

In a moment of light-hearted self-deprecation, Team Captain Sahara Stockwell declared herself the "big loser of the day" with a 6&4 defeat, playfully blaming her caddy – the only one in the team!

The team now eagerly awaits the result of the Exeter versus Saunton match to discover if they have qualified for the next stage of the competition.

Aside from the golf, the Exeter hospitality was excellent, with "lush" food enjoyed by all, despite the exceptionally high temperatures.
