Thursday 26th June
Sun and wind abounded as the Vets hosted Saunton on Thursday 26th June and found themselves giving away rather a large number of shots, unusually for this fixture. The Course was in fine shape, and the greens were fast and true.
Late replacement David Hudson helped Andy Sutherland get us off to a good start. A last-hole blip from Phil Hall and Ragaii Loka resulted in a halved match, as they had been 4 ahead at the turn. Chris Taylor and Geoff Tyler had a good win in a match that was much closer than the result and there followed by good wins for Karl Ginger and George Fenton, Rob Zukowski and Pat Smith and finally Mark Christelow and Mike Saunders.
On this occasion, no stray munitions had been unearthed so our visitors were unable to avoid a comprehensive 5 1/2 - 1/2 loss ( which seemed to come as a shock to some of them ).
However as always everybody was a winner as they tucked into Pavlova and Treacle Tart in the clubhouse afterwards although ultimately all were defeated by Steak Pie and Chips of brobdingnagian proportions except for Andy's pooch who ate a hearty dinner ( and probably breakfast as well ) possibly washed down with a bottle of his master's wine for being nearest the pin on the 5th ( no surprises there then ).
Well done to the team, and bring on the return on Fri 15th August.
Chris Taylor
