RND Vets v Carlyon Bay - Monday 21st July
The second leg of our match against Carlyon Bay took place with us setting out trailing 4 games to 3 from the away leg. The weather was unkind with squally showers and a blustery wind plagued us throughout.
Our old friend Pat Bowrey was included in the Carlyon Bay team for their visit and wished to be remembered to everyone at RND.
We started the match with some drama as the Carlyon Bay Captain Tony lost his wallet and Pat Bowrey didn’t order his bacon bap early enough and had to run to the first tee with it clenched in his fist. Fortunately, both situations were resolved
Peter Haslam and Peter Fisher joined our team as replacements for the home leg and made us proud by winning with their respective partners, Bob and Michael. Ron and Martin had an overwhelming victory in the final game but it wasn’t enough, and we went down 4 games to 3 at home, so an 8-6 loss overall. Carlyon Bay therefore took the Cup back to Cornwall with them for this year.
The course held up magnificently under the downpours and the greens putted very well. As always, the after-match meal and service were superb.
