Mark Stockdale wins The West Of England Amateur

Mark Stockdale of Woburn Golf Club has won the West Of England Amateur Golf Tournament, held at the Royal North Devon Golf Club from 27th to 29th April. Stockdale finished 11 under par, with scores of 70, 66, 74, and 67. Alexander Ford was the next closest competitor, finishing 3 under par, with scores of 74, 66, 72, and 73. Saturday was a little wet but that didn't dampen any spirits at the club at all! The course is playing incredibly well, the green are amazing and as a result the scores in the Saturday Winter mixed Greensomes were superb with a couple of ladies groups doing really well towards the end just when Martin Butler and Robert Greenwood were writing their speeches! Royal North Devon Golf Club 18th Green

The crows finally seem to have stopped pecking at the greens and surrounds. The grubs they seek have migrated deeper into the soil and out of reach. We will continue to search for remedies in order to try and prevent a re-occurrence next winter. We have managed to patch and repair the majority of the damage caused to these areas, it is now just a matter of dressing/levelling and growing the patches in. The course has undergone a sustained attack from the sea for all of the time it has existed and during the winter of 2017/18 we lost over 20ft of sand dune beside the 7th green which took half of the 8th Championship tee completely. The 7th green is now only about 35ft from the edge of the erosion.
