Friday 16th August saw the Vets cross swords with Saunton on the East Course. Having tied the home leg 3 - 3 it looked like a tall order. However an outstanding result of 3.5 - 2.5 saw RND retain the Trophy which they had won in 2023.

Congratulations to Cameron Weir, the Keith Seddon Trophy winner in this week’s Army Championships which were held at Saunton. Cam qualified for the knockout stages with a gutsy performance on the West course, in wet and windy conditions on Monday, where he finished 5th in the scratch stableford event. On Sunday the 9th July Royal North Devon men’s matchplay squad travelled to St Mellion to play in their 3rd round of the Annodata Matchplay series and take on the challenge of the famously difficult Nicklaus course in the swirling wind. RND welcomed the golfers from Weston super Mare Golf Club on Sunday for the annual fixture. With 12 golfers from each club and the course and weather as good as it gets, the morning matches began with a greensomes format. RND took the spoils, winning five matches to Weston's one. After winning both our home matches against Saunton and Tavistock our Ladies Still Cup team has qualified for the Semifinals at Churston in early September. This year the annual Triangular match against East Devon and Saunton was hosted at Saunton on the East Course. Well done to Saunton golf club who took the win - Good scoring with 85% handicap and an easterly gusting up to 27mph and rough up to your knees! The team had really high hopes for Palairet Memorial Trophy this year after putting out the current holders Teignmouth in the first round at Tiverton and then beating the strong team of Downes Crediton at Yelverton both matches by the narrow margins of 3.5 - 1.5. The 55th Annual match between the Club and The Oxford and Cambridge Golfing Society is a 36 hole scratch foursomes event and this year was won by the visitors in a very closely fought match. Most matches finished on the final green and we congratulate the visitors whilst we are already planning our revenge in 2020! Well played everyone!

RND’s “old men” claimed a 3-2 victory in the second leg of their Devon Veterans’ Emmerton Court Trophy game against Libbaton -- but it wasn’t enough. Friday marked the first home game of the Sheelah Creasy Bowl, a Devon ladies singles match play competition for handicaps 21-36. It was a chilly start but it soon warmed up with a light wind. The course proved a step too far for the Exeter ladies who found the tight lies, bunkers and rushes galore a tough call.
