Friday 16th August saw the Vets cross swords with Saunton on the East Course. Having tied the home leg 3 - 3 it looked like a tall order. However an outstanding result of 3.5 - 2.5 saw RND retain the Trophy which they had won in 2023.
Saturday the 5th August saw the fourth round of the Annodata matchplay being played against Lanhydrock at Royal North Devon. With the Met Office issuing an amber warning for strong winds of 50mph + and people returning to the clubhouse saying the course was unplayable it was always going to make for a eventful match but with the opposition sat in the bar ready to go we decided to go for it and get the match played. Match 1 First out for us was Bob Colwill. Bobs match was a tough contest from the...
Congratulations to Cameron Weir, the Keith Seddon Trophy winner in this week’s Army Championships which were held at Saunton. Cam qualified for the knockout stages with a gutsy performance on the West course, in wet and windy conditions on Monday, where he finished 5th in the scratch stableford event. Moving to the blue tees on the East course he dug deep over two days to take victories on the 17th, 18th and 17th again to secure his place in the final against friend and fellow Scot Steve Canning...
On Sunday the 9th July Royal North Devon men’s matchplay squad travelled to St Mellion to play in their 3rd round of the Annodata Matchplay series and take on the challenge of the famously difficult Nicklaus course in the swirling wind. After winning at home against Ilfracombe and Fingle Glen the boys knew they’d have to take their A game to stand any kind of chance against a very low handicap St Mellion team. Match 1 Gary Fisher went out first and was receiving 6 shots from his opponent. Gary h...
On Saturday the 13th May RND played their 1st round of the Annodata matchplay competition against Ilfracombe golf club, with the sun shining and the course in great condition it was a great day to be out on the links. First off was match captain Mike Colwill who got off to a good start going 1up down the first and 2up after a birdie at four, after losing the sixth hole to a birdie managed to win the seventh to get back to 2up, the ninth and tenth hole went to Ilfracombe to take the match all squ...

RNDGC welcomed Plymouth Marjon University for their first Match of the season on a breezy overcast February afternoon. Ben Brace led the way for RNDGC splitting the first fairway on his way to claiming the first point with a hard fought 2 and 1 win. Second out was the irrepressible Stephen Flood claiming a 8&7 win against a fellow scratch player with some immaculate play in tough conditions. Next was Chris Hampton who in his own words was done up like a kipper and he suffered an eye c...
RND welcomed the golfers from Weston super Mare Golf Club on Sunday for the annual fixture. With 12 golfers from each club and the course and weather as good as it gets, the morning matches began with a greensomes format. RND took the spoils, winning five matches to Weston's one. RND's sparkling form continued in the afternoon fourballs and again they won five matches to one for an overall 10-2 result. Although the greens have recently been verti-drained, they played remarkably well and the West...
After winning both our home matches against Saunton and Tavistock our Ladies Still Cup team has qualified for the Semifinals at Churston in early September. Due to circumstances out of our control, we have had the opportunity to introduce the match-play concept, scratch golf, to several ladies with slightly higher handicap than what we normally would choose and also higher handicap than our opponents. All my players have risen to the challenge and I am very proud to report the fact that we have ...
This year the annual Triangular match against East Devon and Saunton was hosted at Saunton on the East Course. Well done to Saunton golf club who took the win - Good scoring with 85% handicap and an easterly gusting up to 27mph and rough up to your knees! Next years match will be at RNDGC, selection will be available to those that support Club team golf. If you are interested in playing for the teams please get in touch with Shaun Loze - Match Manager.
The team had really high hopes for Palairet Memorial Trophy this year after putting out the current holders Teignmouth in the first round at Tiverton and then beating the strong team of Downes Crediton at Yelverton both matches by the narrow margins of 3.5 - 1.5. The last time we won the trophy, a handicap foursomes matchplay Inter-Devon club knockout was in 1957. The matches are usually one a month starting in April and finishing in September. So it was off to East Devon GC for the third round,...
RND Ladies Still Cup Team got off to a great start in their first match of the season against Saunton Ladies at RND. Five pairings set out in strong winds on Sunday afternoon. Several of the RND ladies had never played the scratch format before, but they enjoy matchplay and are good at it, and with good inclusion of a few experienced players, it all paid off in the end. The team motto "Believe and Achieve “ proved successful, and we had a good day out on our fantastic course. &...

The 55th Annual match between the Club and The Oxford and Cambridge Golfing Society is a 36 hole scratch foursomes event and this year was won by the visitors in a very closely fought match. Most matches finished on the final green and we congratulate the visitors whilst we are already planning our revenge in 2020! Well played everyone!
Still Cup – Scratch singles Matchplay In the final match of the season for the Still Cup the team woke at the crack of dawn to travel down to Torquay for a 10.45 tee time. This seemed to have worked in our favour as the ladies gained a momentous 4/3 victory against defending Champions Torquay. Well done to the team which consisted of Paula Gibbs, Rosemary Ferguson, Sharon Stephens, Liz Bird, Liz McKay, Gro Lomas and Anna Wright and to all the other ladies who have played their part in the team t...
RND’s “old men” claimed a 3-2 victory in the second leg of their Devon Veterans’ Emmerton Court Trophy game against Libbaton -- but it wasn’t enough. Their 4-1 defeat in the away leg proved to be too much of a hurdle to overcome despite this impressive effort.Captain Simon Hopkins was naturally disappointed but remained upbeat: “It was a very close-run thing and a very exciting, hard-fought battle,” he said. “But the damage was done in the away match. It was a good performance all round but not ...
Simon Hopkins' (now not so) merry men took a 4-1 beating from their local rivals in the Emerton Court Trophy and now face the toughest of tasks in the home leg on June 17th (tee off 12.30pm). "It was a disaster," admitted a downcast but defiant captain, "and we will have to work very hard to get through." Tony Allin and Richard Stubbs proved they can produce the goods when the pressure is on by fighting back from two down to win their match 3&2 but, elsewhere, it was carnage for a RND line-u...
Friday marked the first home game of the Sheelah Creasy Bowl, a Devon ladies singles match play competition for handicaps 21-36. It was a chilly start but it soon warmed up with a light wind. The course proved a step too far for the Exeter ladies who found the tight lies, bunkers and rushes galore a tough call. First out was Ruth Horn who won 6/5, Tania won 7/6, Barbara won 8/7, Pauline Marais won 6/5. We then awaited the other matches which were a little tighter. Victoria triumphed 2/1 on the 1...
It was a lot tougher than most expected but RND's "old men" are through to the second round of Devon Veterans' Emmerton Court Trophy. After winning their away leg 4 and a half to a half at Torrington two weeks earlier they were given a rare battle in the return before getting home 3 and a half to one and half. Captain Simon Hopkins spent most of the afternoon gibbering nervously about the wisdom of his selections before everything came right in the end. First pair out Clifford Brown and Phil Hal...
The Club have been working really hard with our Mens teams with practice evenings and training throughout the winter and hopefully this will come to fruition in the next few weeks as the first round of The Rosebowl (for which we are the current holders) and The Palairet Memorial Trophy (which we last won in 1957 but we were runners up in 1978!!). The Rosebowl is up first and is this Sunday 19th May with first tee 0930 at Portmore againt Torrington Golf Club. The Palairet 2nd round is then at Cre...
