In the quarter finals we had to give 16 shots to a pair from South Staffs. They had reached the finals on two previous occasions and beat us 3/1. After losing 3 ½ to 1 ½ away on a dog legged tree lined course at Torquay Golf Club the previous week RNDGC Vets had the unenvious task of having to win outright on the return match at RND on Wednesday 18th May. Congratulations to Andy and Michelle Fenge from RND who triumphed in the 2022 Bideford Bay Foursomes. Michelle and Andrew won both trophies (mixed and main event) with a score of 77 points, 38 at Saunton and 39 at RND. They beat 292 other pairs. ‘A strong easterly wind made playing conditions difficult’. A fantastic winning score of 40 points saw Steven Sherry and Neil Crossman take the trophy. Second place, on 36 points was Tom Boundy and Jack Smallridge. Third was the never ageing Bryan Palmer, playing with a much younger Peter Slee also with 36 points. RND welcomed the golfers from Weston super Mare Golf Club on Sunday for the annual fixture. With 12 golfers from each club and the course and weather as good as it gets, the morning matches began with a greensomes format. RND took the spoils, winning five matches to Weston's one.   This winter will see the return of the RND Winter Foursomes order of merit, where players earn points based on their finishing position in each of 5 events scheduled from November to March (dates below). Steve Morrish won last years series, closely followed by Richard Hughes and Chris Drew in 2nd and 3rd place. A great win at the Killard Leavy Cup competition at Honiton Golf Club for ladies captain Tania Wickham and partner Pauline Marais. The Killard Leavy Cup is a foursomes, stableford competition run by DCVLGA for lady veterans. In tricky conditions the pair coped better than the rest of the field and were delighted with their win.  Congratulations Tania and Pauline, a fantastic achievement.

The 55th Annual match between the Club and The Oxford and Cambridge Golfing Society is a 36 hole scratch foursomes event and this year was won by the visitors in a very closely fought match. Most matches finished on the final green and we congratulate the visitors whilst we are already planning our revenge in 2020! Well played everyone!

After an excellent 7/3 victory against Bigbury in The Emerton Court preliminaries our Vets team played Torrington away in the first half of the first round.
